Natural Deodorants - What to Expect

Natural Deodorants - What to Expect

As the organic movement continues to grow, there have been more available options for food, personal care products, home cleaners, and home goods. Deodorant naturally fits into this toxic-free movement, but if your body has been conditioned to using conventional antiperspirants & deodorants there are a few things to keep in mind.

  1. Natural deodorants are not antiperspirants. Aluminum, the active ingredient conventional brands use, blocks the sweat ducts and reduces the amount of sweat that reaches the skin's surface. There have been questions around antiperspirants increasing the risk of breast cancer because of this sweat-blocking action, but there is no scientific study that supports this to date. Regardless, natural deodorants are a great solution to reducing the toxic load in your body as they are not made with chemicals or heavy metals like aluminum. Your sweat ducts are free to release toxins from your body as well so it’s like a win-win! In my experience, the longer I use my natural deodorant (it’s certified organic too!) the less my body actually sweats!
  2. Your body will go through a detox process. At the start, you may experience extra sweat and/or odor the first few days. Your body is going through a natural detox process (armpit pores unclogging) from wearing toxic conventional antiperspirants for so many years. Once your pores are unclogged you will notice that our deodorant keeps you dry and smelling fresh all day long. The longer you use it, the better it works. Try this method to speed the process.
    Armpit Detox Recipe
    INGREDIENTS:
  3. 1 Tbsp bentonite clay
  4. 1-2 tsp water
    • DIRECTIONS:
    • Mix until achieve a smooth mask consistency.
    • Spread on your armpits and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
    • Use a warm, wet washcloth to remove the mask.
    • Repeat the armpit detox for 3 days or as long as needed.
      1. Tip: Bentonite draws impurities from the skin, so your skin may turn red but shouldn’t hurt. If you’re extra sensitive and it hurts, remove mask immediately.

Other tips during your armpit detox process:
          • Wear natural fiber shirts.
          • Drink plenty of water to flush out your body.
          • Eat a healthy whole-food based diet full of leafy greens. Avoid fried foods.
          • Dry off completely after showering and before applying All Out Organic Deodorant so the water doesn’t encourage bacteria growth.
          • Apply diluted lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to your armpit with a cotton ball after bathing.
Be mindful of the application process. Our organic deodorant is best applied when the body is warm after a shower. Make sure the armpit is completely dry and press the stick on the armpit to warm. Glide 1-2 times per armpit. Do not over-apply as that will decrease effectiveness and may stain shirt. You should not have to drag the stick across the pit which may cause irritation. Be patient. Warm first and then gently glide.
